I got a 2nd cell Galaxy.A16 5G.Ā I'm trying to use the native app that I used in the old phone S10.E. It seems like it's all Google apps in the new A16. I don't like the Google sms app. Any recommendations?Ā

Sorry, but they are moving towards Google Messaging on newer devices because it is far better than what was previously installed in my option.

You're right — many newer Galaxy models, including the A16 5G, are shipping with Google Messages set as the default instead of Samsung Messages. Samsung has been gradually shifting toward Google’s version, especially in newer A-series phones.

That said, you can still try the Samsung Messages app:

1. Open the Galaxy Store (not the Play Store)

2. Search for Samsung Messages — if it's compatible with your device, you should see the option to install it

3. Once installed, go to Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > SMS app and set it to Samsung Messages

If it doesn’t show up or says incompatible, it may not be officially supported on that model.

You can also check Settings > Apps > Samsung Messages to see if it's preloaded but hidden — sometimes it's there but not set as the default.

Hopefully that helps bring back the familiar messaging experience you're used to. Let us know how it goes!
